About the Project
In the European Union, Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are responsible for up to 200,000 deaths per year, with annual costs to society of 80 billion EUR. The risk for serious ADRs increases exponentially with more than five medications prescribed. One of the major aims of Clinical Pharmacists is to assess the Medication Appropriateness Index of individual patients in order to reduce the risk for ADRs.
With AI4Health, Robimo GmbH and the Pharmacoinformatics Research Group at the University of Vienna develop an AI-based platform able to predict drug-drug interactions (DDIs) of medications and warn patients, doctors, and pharmacists if a combination of medications poses the risk of serious ADRs. The system leverages millions of medication records from OpenFDA and combines this information with knowledge about the biological activity profiles of drugs from the publicly available ChEMBL database. Depending on the user’s medical knowledge and expertise, the platform will provide different levels of information.

How AI4Health Works
AI4Health allows users to search for Active Substances, Drugs, and Side Effects, and combinations thereof.
The platform utilizes data from OpenFDA and ChEMBL, processed by advanced AI models.

Features and Results
The results comprise information on individual drugs and their side effects, major DDIs reported (if available), as well as predicted ADRs.
